One Piece began its final saga in 2022, and since then, the story has only grown more intense — especially with the events of the Egghead Island arc. While that arc set the tone for the endgame, it’s with the Elbaf arc that the story takes a dramatic new turn. Naturally, fans are now wondering:
What will Eiichiro Oda do after One Piece ends?
For now, Eiichiro Oda isn’t thinking about what’s next. His priority is to deliver the best possible ending to a project he’s dedicated over two decades of his life to. One Piece isn’t just a manga to him — it’s a lifelong journey.
“I’m willing to die for One Piece,”
Oda said in an interview with his editor, Kawashima.
That statement isn’t just dramatic flair. Oda is known for sacrificing sleep, meals, and even his health to consistently deliver powerful, emotional, and action-packed chapters to fans around the world.
Currently, the Elbaf arc is unfolding, and it promises major battles and shocking revelations. But Oda has made it clear:
The spotlight won’t be on Luffy alone.
Other characters will also get their time to shine, as Oda weaves together the final threads of this global saga.
He shared in a past statement:
“When I was a kid, I dreamed of drawing a manga with an ending that everyone would wait for. We’re almost done with Wano, and preparations for the finale are nearly complete. It took me 25 years to get here.”
He also added:
“Don’t worry — if you start reading now, you’ll be here in time to see the truth behind One Piece revealed. All the mysteries of this world will be answered. Expect great things. Stay with me just a bit longer!”
After One Piece ends, Oda’s top priority is his family. For years, he’s had little time for his wife and children due to the demanding nature of weekly serialization.
He once made a promise to his wife back in 2004:
Once One Piece is over, they would travel the world together.
Oda also acknowledges the toll this lifestyle has taken on his health. Working long hours, sleeping only three hours a night, and skipping meals have affected him physically. That’s why rest is a non-negotiable first step post-One Piece.
While Oda has teased the idea of spin-offs or stories focused on characters like Dragon or Garp, he’s made it clear that nothing is planned yet. Right now, he just wants to finish One Piece on his terms — and take a break.
With the finale drawing closer, Oda still has surprises in store. Readers can continue to follow the series for free via the Shonen Jump and Manga Plus apps.
The next chapter is scheduled for December 8, 2024.
After nearly 30 years of work, Eiichiro Oda has built more than a bestselling manga — he’s crafted a global phenomenon. And while the end of One Piece may feel bittersweet, fans around the world support Oda’s decision to finally rest.
